Guildford ground: chalk, greensand and slopes
Guildford sits where the chalk of the Hog's Back meets the greensand and clay of the valleys, so the ground under a Guildford plot can change over a short distance — and the foundations change with it. On the higher ground you're often into chalk, which gives good bearing but raises its own questions for soakaways and drainage. Down in the valleys and out towards the Wey it's softer and wetter. Fifty years working this ground means we usually know what to expect before we open it up, and we'll say at quote stage if the drawn foundation won't suit what's actually there.

Not at all, though it's worth knowing where we're different. Plenty of Guildford firms do good driveways.
